We played grown ups today! Instead of sitting in my jimjams covered in flour dreaming up new pancake flavours, we went out into the big wide world to get some knowledge.
The FoodExchange hosted by Enterprise Nation at The Bakery in London was really interesting – and worth standing up for the whole train journey, forgetting my railcard and getting wet feet. The speakers were a mixture of supermarket buyers, successful entrepreneurs and sources of funding. And the snacks were super tasty cupcakes. The ones with more icing than cake.
The highlight for me (apart from hearing there’s a company called Total Sausage Fest) was hearing Jimmy from Jimmy’s Iced Coffees speak. Not only is he one of the most entertaining men to ever walk the planet, but he’s had great business success by focusing on a simple and quality product. Think theres a lot that all food entrepreneurs can learn from him.
Was also really interesting to hear from the supermarket buyers about what they look for and I think (in my humble opinion) that there would be a great fit with our brand and Selfridges given their focus on gifting. A few ‘Etsy for food’ websites that I’d love to get involved with too, so as soon as the relaunch is completed in (eeek!) 2 weeks time, we’ll be pitching our new packaging and new flavours to some big dog foodies. Can’t wait!
